Obituary of Thomas Russell

Russell, Thomas W., age 85, of Homer, New York, passed away in the presence of family in Syracuse, New York, on December 5, 2014. He was born to Thomas and Violet Russell in Detroit, Michigan, on April 21, 1929. He moved at an early age with his family to Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from high school and joining the work force, he was drafted into the Army in 1951 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1953. He was a Lifetime Member of the American Legion serving with Carle Place Post 1718 for over 50 years; he was Post 1718's Commander from 1973-1974. He was married to Margaret (Teichman) (1955-1979) and is survived by their children, Robert (Rosanne), Philip, and Laura Lee Rockwell, seven grandchildren and one great-grand daughter. He is also survived by his sister Frances Comer. Thomas was pre-deceased by his beloved second wife Regina (Brunhuber) and his older brother Robert. He loved to play golf with his fellow legionnaires and watch the New York Giants and New York Yankees with his family. His quick wit and sense of humor always had friends and family laughing. Friends may call at Weigand Bros. Funeral Home 49 Hillside Ave., Williston Park, NY on Thursday, December 11 between 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's church in Carle Place at 10:00 am on December 12. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.
